St. Augustine Wedding at Mission of Nombre de Dios

What better place for Kathryn and Jordan to exchange vows and celebrate their first mass as newlyweds than the spot of the first Catholic Mass in the new world!

On September 8, 1565, Pedro Menendez de Aviles landed here in St. Augustine and proclaimed this site for Spain and the Church. It was here that Menendez knelt to kiss a wooden cross presented to him by Father Francisco Lopez de Mendoza Grajales, chaplain of his expedition. It was on these grounds that Fr. Lopez would celebrate the first parish Mass and begin the work at America’s first Mission. It was at this sacred spot that Kathryn and Jordan exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony with a handful of friends and family.

After the beautiful ceremony at this holy place, we walked the mission grounds and did photos with the Church of Our Lady of La Leche and surrounding grounds as our backdrop. We also did some photos on the backstreets of downtown St. Augustine before Kathryn and Jordan met their families for a lunch celebration at The Casa Monica.
