A Captain and His Mate

We’ve been photographing in this small town of ours for over 15 years and one of the greatest joys is working with friends. Maya and Luke have been fixtures in the community, so we were so thankful when they asked us to be a part of their wedding day. So while knew a little of their backstory, I thought I’d ask them to put it in words for you.

Once upon a time, a charter boat captain walked into a real estate office with a cooler full of fish for his friend. That charter boat captain was Luke, and that friend just happened to be Maya's boss. After delivering his catch, Luke waved at Maya on his way out of the office. Maya immediately turned to her boss and said, "Who's that?!!" Unbeknownst to her, Luke texted her boss, at the very same time, asking the very same thing about her. And so, their story began...

After much vetting by friends who had known Maya all her life, Luke wooed her with an ice cream cone and an evening boat ride for their first date.

Fast forward two years and, on a very cold Christmas night in New Jersey surrounded by family and fireworks, Luke popped the question, and Maya said Yes!! And, the wedding planning began!

Being a bit untraditional, and because Luke is currently training with the Navy, in the midst of planning a ceremony for family and friends, Luke and Maya exchanged vows on a rainy California day in January (isn't rain on your wedding day good luck??). They "mini-mooned" around San Diego for the week to follow. Since Luke is stationed in Coronado, and Maya was still working full time in Florida, they traveled back and forth as often as possible this year until Maya made the big move to the west coast back in October. They've enjoyed their time on the west coast throughout the fall season with lots of sightseeing, day trips and fun adventures. On December 30th 2019 they renewed their vows in front of all of their loved ones, and hosted a week long celebration in St Augustine to celebrate their marriage in a big way!
